The name Ferrari is synonymous with aesthetic design, powerful engines, technical innovation and one of the most influential men in the history of the automobile. With a tremendous vision and an unbridled passion for motorsport, Enzo Ferrari led his company to unrivalled prestige and created a legend that lives on to this day. Montblanc has dedicated the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition to the man and his passion for racing.

Inspired by both the coat of arms of Enzo Ferrari’s hometown of Modena and the iconic colour of the Scuderia logo, this edition honours Ferrari’s second soul – the colour yellow. The dates of Enzo Ferrari’s birth and his first racing victory are engraved on the cone, while his signature and the name of his father’s workshop, ‘Officina Meccanica Alfredo Ferrari’, in reference to Enzo Ferrari’s birthplace, adorn the top of the cap. The whole thing is crowned by the Montblanc emblem in blue precious resin – as a further homage to the Modena coat of arms – and is surrounded by elaborate metalwork reminiscent of the radiator grille of a classic car.

Enzo Ferrari’s first victory on the Circuito del Savio was also the reason for the creation of the now famous Ferrari logo. Among the many spectators admiring Enzo Ferrari’s bold driving style that day was the family of flying ace Francesco Baracca, who had served in the same unit as Enzo’s brother Dino during the First World War. Francesco Baracca’s mother, Countess Paolina Biancoli, suggested to Enzo Ferrari that he put the emblem of the prancing, unbridled horse from her son’s aeroplane on his racing car for good luck. The idea of associating the horse with the courage and will of a national hero made it an ideal symbol for Enzo. Nine years later, the Cavallino Rampante was used for the first time on a yellow background to embellish a car. It was at the Spa 24-hour race in 1932, and the Scuderia Ferrari team took first and second place with two cars featuring the prancing horse. The cap of the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition is engraved with the Cavallino Rampante, together with the Countess’s words: ‘Le porterà fortuna’ (‘It will bring you luck’).
As a tribute to Enzo’s success, the ruthenium-plated nib in solid 585 gold is embossed with the word ‘Pilota’ (one of his nicknames) and the steering wheel of the 250 GTO, one of the most famous racing cars in the world.
